If you have a printer which is not listed in the above table, your printer may or may not be supported by Edimax Print Server devices.  We encourage you give our Print Server device a try because our Print Server devices are compatible with most of printers in the market.  However, please note that Edimax Print Server may not support a multi-functional scan/fax/copy/print all-in-one printer.  Even if it supports the all-in-one printer, it can only do the printer-sharing job for your network.

Q:  What is PrintServer Configuration Utility and what should I do with the CD that came with the Print Server device?

A:  There are two major software in the Print Server CD - the Administrator Installation and the Client Driver Installation.  These two programs are for computers which run Windows operating system.
Only one of your computers needs to install the administrator configuration program.  You do not need to install the program into your server.  A workstation can do the job.  Follow the instruction on screen to install the administrator program. Usually users can uncheck the option of WebDESK and NetWare and only install the options of Utilities and Driver. After the installation is completed, click on the Start button, select Programs, select and run the Print Server Configuration utility.  By using the configuration program, you can configure Print Server devices or view their configuration.  For example, under the General tab you can find a gray model number like 1P/7E-9.3.1.1.  The 9.3 indicates the firmware version of your Print Server device.  Under the Print Server Status tab, you can see the value of Active IP which indicates the IP address of Print Server.  Click on the IP CFG tab, you can manually assign a fixed IP address to Print Server.
The Client Installation program is needed for each workstation that will print to the PrintSir.  The program will create a PrintSir Network Port.  Go to the Printers in Control Panel.  Right click on your printer's driver and select Properties.  Redirect the printer port to the correct PrintSir Network Port.  Then the print job will be printed to PrintSir.  Users of windows XP/2000 can use the PrintSir Network port which is created by Client Driver program or use the standard TCP/IP port provided by the OS.  Check our FAQ for more detailed information for using the standard TCP/IP port.

Q: What is the default username and password for print server device?

A: If your print server configuration utility is v3.8.3 or newer, it will prompt for username and password.  For print server models like PS-1203/PS-1205Um/PS-3103, the username is admin and no password or the password is su@psir.  For print server models like PS-3205U, the username is admin and password is 1234.

If you use print server configuration utility v3.4 or older version for model PS-1203, PS-1205Um or PS-3103, the program will not prompt from username and password.  To get the utility v3.4, click here.

If you know the IP address of print serer, you can use Internet Explorer Browser to access the print server configuration.  For example http://192.168.123.13.  Please use Internet Explorer because using a  browser other than Internet Explorer may not work.  If you like to change any setting, it will ask for username and password.

You can make your own password.  The password must be less than seven characters.

Q:  The Print Server Configuration Utility does not detect the print server.  What should I do?

A:  Unplug the power of print server.  Then plug the power back in.

If you have single port print server like PS-1203, the Status LED will blink 6 times then turn off.  The power and Network LED will be on.  If the Status LED does not turn off, your print server is malfunctioning.

If you have three port print server like PS-3103P, the Parallel Port 1 will blink 6 times then turn off.  The power and Network LED will be on.  If the Port 1 LED does not turn off, the print server is malfunctioning.

If you have a firewall program installed in your computer, please disable it or uninstall it.  Then try the print server utility program again.

If you still can not see the print server, please try the v3.4 print server utility which you can download from here.  After install the v3.4, you will get the WinIP.EXE program in c:\program files\PrintServer Utilities\WinUtil folder.  Double click on WinIP.exe to detect print server devices.   Should WinIP.exe still can not find Print Server, you can run WinIPX.exe in the same folder of WinIP.exe.  The WinIPX.exe uses IPX protocol so please add the IPX/SPX NWLink protocol to your network adapter before you run WinIPX.exe program.
