Q: I have a NetWare 4.10 server and a NetWare client on the network. I run the PSETUP.EXE or INSTALL program and get the error message of "no admin/supervisor privilege" but I already log-in as supervisor.

A: You should log into the NetWare 4.x network using VLM requester instead of NETX. This problem may occur at NDS mode, it should not occur at Bindery mode. The possible causes and solution described as below:

  • Some required files like NETX.VLM do not reside in the VLM directory. Pleasere-install your NetWare client and make sure all related files are copied to the VLM directory.
  • NetWare Unicode tables are not located in a directory in the local searchpath. Make sure your local search path includes the NLS sub-directory on SYS:PUBLIC or SYS:LOGIN.
  • If the problem still persists, please run the PSETUP.EXE program with /doption to display debugging information and contact your dealer for service assistance.

Q: The text files print correctly but graphics do not, why?
Q: I get garbage when I print from NetWare, why?

A: Please check the following:

  • The NPRINT or CAPTURE command is not used correctly. For example, the capture setting from DOS should read something like this: capture l=1q=test_q ti=10 Nb Nff Nt. Please make a note of the 'Nt' option, this isa very important switch and should be used whenever you get garbled print.
  • Note that you MUST run CAPTURE command before loading the printer driver, or you may get garbled print.
  • Make sure the printer driver installed is correct.

Q: The print jobs are successfully sent to the print queue, but are never sent to the printer. The print jobs stay in the print queue.  How to fix this?

A: Please check the following:

  • The NetWare print server and print queue configuration in PCONSOLE are correct.
  • The file server and print queue configuration of the Print Server are correct.  You can use the PSETUP.EXE program to check the Print Server status.
  • The cables connected to the Print Server are not loose.
  • The printer is not off line, jammed, or out of paper.
  • The user printing a job is an authorized user for the print queue. Please add all users who will print jobs to the queue users list of print queue. In NetWare 3.1x environment, when you create a print queue, NetWare server should automatically add EVERYONE group to the queue users list of this newly print queue. So every user can print jobs and print jobs can be serviced by the attached print server. But in NetWare4.1x environment, you MUST add each individual user who will print jobs to the queue users by yourself.

Q: The print jobs are separated into two separate jobs, why?
Q: I print a file from PE2 program, the print job is sent to the print queue but not printed to the print server, why?

A: This often happens when the CAPTURE command is not used correctly. For example, the capture setting from DOS should read something like this: capture l=1 q=test_q ti=10 Nb Nff Nt. The "ti" switch should be used with the CAPTURE command.

Q: How come I can not print from Windows 95 workstations in a 100Base-TX segment going over a NetWare 4.10 server and then to the print server on a 10Base-T segment?

A: You require a patch called C3295C.EXE from Novell, and install to the Windows 95 workstations with the Novell Client32.

Q: The print server doesn't attach to the Novell queues.

A: Please re-start the print server. If it still doesn't attach, un-install the print server with PCONSOLE and then re-install the print server with INSTALL or PSETUP program.

Q: I have a PS3100A+ 3-port print server. I cannot setup the remote printer with the PSETUP program; neither can Configuration tool for Windows 95/NT.

A: The PS3100+ does not support the NetWare Remote Printer feature yet.

Q: The print server does not automatically re-attach to the NetWare server after the server has been down.

A: The print server will automatically re-attach to the NetWare server at Bindery mode, but it can not re-attach to the NetWare server at NDS mode.

Q: The print server worked very well under NetWare 4.11 environment. But it could not connect to the NetWare server after I installed the Border Manager on this NetWare server. Neither could I find this print server using PSETUP.EXE program!

A: After installing the Border Manager to the NetWare 4.11 server, you can not log into this server with NETX shell either. This is because this server with Border Manager installed does not respond some query packets any more. We modified the firmware of print server to solve this problem. Please upgrade the firmware to the version of 7.9 or later (for PS1000A+, PS1100A+ and PS3100A+).

Q: The print server logs into NetWare server multiple times.

A: The multiple connections are really old connections and will be automatically deleted after a few minutes.

Q: I receive a "Printer off-line" or "Printer out of paper" message, but the printer is on-line and has paper, why?

A: please check the Print Servers connection to the printer. Test the printer to make sure it is working properly by temporarily connecting it directly to a workstation.

Q: I use a PostScript banner but I get wrong banner page, why?

A: Please make sure NetWare is configured to use a PostScript-style banner page instead of a text-style banner page.
