    About Configuration:

    1. Q. How do I configure the Broadband Router?

    A. Access the Broadband Router configuration through any Internet browser. Simply enter the IP address (192.168.168.230), and "password" as the password, and you are in. You also can use CLI (Command Line Interface) over ¡§null-modem¡¨ or telnet session to issue commands to do.

2.How can I access ¡§Command Line Interface¡¨ through its console port?

    A. Connect your PC to the router¡¦s RS-232 port (using a supplied null modem cable) and invoke a PC terminal emulation program (such as Hyper Terminal) and set its parameter parameters to be 19200, 8, None, 1, None. Then hit a few carriage return from your PC keyboard until you see login prompt from the screen (coming from the router).

If you can communicate with the router through its RS-232 port but previously not through the router¡¦s LAN port, the LAN port may not be properly connected or the TCP/IP was not properly installed in your PC.

3.Q. Can I manage the router remotely (from Internet)?

    A. Normally, since your router will be assigned a private IP address (192.168.168.230), you can not access your router remotely through the Internet. However, if you work with your ISP and obtain a public IP for your router (by manually configuring a public IP address to your router), you can manage the router remotely by your browser (Graphical User Interface) or telnet (Command Line Interface) through the Internet. Alternatively, if you connect a modem to the router¡¦s RS-232 port as well as your remote PC, you can dial up from the remote PC through the regular telephone network to your router.

    4. Q. How do I find out what Firmware version is on my Broadband Router?

A.To check firmware version, go to the "About System" from the Access Router Manager (ARM). Or type "Show system" from the Command Line Interface.

    5. Q. How do I get the MAC address for the Broadband Router?

    A. You can browse ARM, and select "About System" to check MAC address. But this is just the router's MAC address on LAN port. The EWAN port's MAC address of the router equal LAN port's MAC address plus one.

You can also use CLI (Command Line Interface) command "show system" to check LAN port's MAC address.

    6. Q. I have changed the address of the router, how do I get to the Access Router Manager (ARM) screen if I forgot this new address?

    A. If your PC attach to router's LAN port, you can execute "ipconfig" in MS-DOS. Check gateway's IP address, this is the new IP address of the router. Or you can use CLI command "show dhcp" to check "Default gateway".

    7. Q. PPPoE Timeout, what does it do?

    A. PPPoE Timeout mechanism is used for save customer's money. This feature force router to disconnect connection, if the idle time of this connection is over PPPoE Timeout setting. If users always wish to keep call alive, users can set PPPoE Timeout value to zero.

    8. Q. If I install PPPoE, should I enable the PPPoE Timeout?

    A. Yes, we suggest to enable this timer to save user's money.

    A.    It may be caused by DNS problem. You can check it by following step:

    • Connect one of the computers directly to the cable/DSL modem.

    • Open a command prompt and ping the ISP web server or mail server name given. You should be able to get an IP address when it replies.

    • After you get the IP Address, enter the IP address on the mail server option or the Internet browser, and then you can access these servers through Broadband Router.

8.Q.I have a DSL modem, why does my Broadband Router loose Internet connection?

    A. Certain DSL provider has a time out limit to disconnect you after a certain amount of time spent on the Internet. To avoid this, you will need to set the "idle timeout seconds" to an appropriate value, e.g. 600 seconds.  If you set the value to 0 seconds, it means "never" time out.
